RELATIONS
The Centre of International Relations (formerly the Institute of International Relations), a component of the Liu Institute for Global Issues, is a research centre within the College of Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of British Columbia. Its purpose is to facilitate internationally-orientated interdisciplinary research and curricula among the faculty and students of UBC and other institutions, in Canada and abroad.
Diasaku Higashi, a doctoral candidate who has received support from the CIR, has written an op-ed entitled "Creating jobs for Afghan insurgents key to peace." It was published in English by the Herald Tribune Asahi on August 13, 2009. Click here to read the full article.
25 July 2009 "A Forewarned Future: As 'Climate Security' forecast darkens, is Canada Ready?", by Mike Blanchfield. Margaret Purdy, principal investigator of the CIR's climate change and security project, comments on the security implications of climate change.
